Research
Lesson 1. Timeline Activity – See Think Wonder.
You will explore a timeline of images and make observations.
For the different groups of images note the following in the See Think Wonder template.
SEE – What do you see? Write down what you notice and observe in the ‘See’ column.
THINK – What do you think is happening in the image? What does this make you think? Write your thoughts down under the ‘Think’ column.
WONDER – What does it make you wonder? What questions do you have? Write these down under the ‘Wonder’ column.
Lesson 2. In groups of 2 or 3, you will select an image from one of the historical time periods to research and present your findings to the class.
Instructions:
a) Click on your group’s chosen time period below and choose one of the images from that page to use for this activity.
b) Set up your collaborative note-taking framework. One person from your group is to download it from the link below, save it to OneDrive and share it with the group to edit and add notes.

c) In your group use 2-3 relevant books and 1 website from the time period pathfinder to make notes to identify main ideas about:
- your chosen image,
- the role of women during your chosen time period,
- and the connection between the image and the role of women at that time.
Make notes using your group’s collaborative note-taking framework. (Need help about ‘how to take notes?’ Click HERE)
e) Practice using Citefast to create correctly formatted references for the image, website and books you have used. Remember to use APA 7. Click HERE to see what a bibliography should look like.
f) Present your findings to the class and upload your notes to you collaborative learning space in your Class OneNote. Your English Teacher will assist you with this.
Tip: Use the following reading techniques when using books for your research:
- Check contents and index for your keywords
- Scan the book for headings and subheadings – look for your keywords
- Scan the pages – look for your keywords.
- When you find your keyword – STOP – slow down to read carefully to see if the information is relevant. If it is. Slow down more. Read carefully to identify the main idea. Note the main idea down in your notes.
The gauge for each time period is a guide only based on the reading level of the information resources and/or literature texts from the time period available to choose from the Library.
