Years 7-9 House Reading Challenge 2022
The House Reading Challenge is now finished for 2022.
Any books you read from December over the Summer Holidays can count towards next year’s Reading Challenge.

Instructions:
- Select a category for a book to read from the list below. Some categories have suggested reading links to help you choose a book.
- When you have finished reading the book, fill out your record sheet. These are to be kept in the Library.
- Ms Bright will check and sign off on the points you earn. (During your English reading period in the Library Ms Bright may occasionally need to meet with you to confirm your points).
- House points are earned based on the number of pages read and will contribute to the overall end of year House Cup.
- To earn yourself an individual House point Year 7, 8 & 9 students need to earn 50 points.
- If you want to complete more that’s great; you will still earn points towards your House tally. Only 1 individual House Point can be earned.
- The House Reading Challenge finishes on Friday 21st October 2021.
- Senior and Junior Years House Reading Challenge points will be combined and the overall winning House will be announced at the Heather Lamont Festival concert.

Do I have to participate in the Reading Challenge?
All student’s in Year’s 7-9 are expected to participate. Remember you will also be earning points for your House! And it’s okay to read at your own pace and level. Just do the best you can.
How many points will I earn for each book that I read?
> 100 = 1 point
> 200 = 2 points
> 300 = 3 points
> 400 = 4 points
> 500 = 5 points (Max)
You can even earn points for books your don’t finish as long as you have read a minimum of 100 pages from it. Note the number of pages and work out your points above.
Do I have to complete the categories in order?
No. You can choose any category to start at. Just be careful when you fill in your Record Card to fill in the correct corresponding number to what you have completed.
How will you check I have read a book on the list?
You need to fill out your Record sheet.
Ms Bright will check and sign off on the points you earn.
During your English reading period in the Library Ms Bright may occasionally need to meet with you to confirm your points.
What if a book I read fits more than one category?
You can only count a book once. So choose the category you would like to count it towards.
Can I repeat a category and still earn points?
No. For points to count you can only complete a category once.
What about books from a series?
Each book in a series can be counted if you can find a category for it.
What about books I’ve read before and have read them again this year?
We would like to see you reading NEW novels and books to broaden your reading experience. Remember it is a reading “challenge.”
This means they should be books you have never read before.
BUT have a look at category 46! Re-read a favourite novel.
So if you are going to read something you have read before,try to re-read something that is REALLY a favourite.
