Do I have to participate?
It is completely voluntary for Year’s 10-12. Remember though, participating means you earn points for your House!
Does the book have to be from the MLC Library?
No. You can read a book from your public library, a book you have at home or even an eBook. The only criteria is that the book must be professionally published.
How may House points does each book I read earn?
Points are based on the number of pages per book.
> 100= 1 point
> 200= 2 points
> 300= 3 points
> 400= 4 points
> 500= 5 points (max)
How many points do I need to earn to be awarded my own individual House point?
30 points for Years 10-12.
How will you check I have read a suitable book?
You need to fill out your Entry form (record card) and bring it to Mrs Stewart in the library at lunchtime for signing off. You may be asked some questions about the book that you need to answer to verify you have read it. For this reason we recommend you get your form signed as soon as you can after completing each one so you have the book fresh in your mind.
Can I repeat a category and still earn points?
No. For points to count you can only complete a category once.
What if a book I read fits more than one category?
You can only count a book once (except for category 25).
What if I read something over the Christmas holidays?
Anything that you finished reading from over the Summer holidays can be counted up to a maximum of 10 points.
Can I use a book I have re-read?
You may always re-read any of your favourite books, however for the House Reading Challenge only new books that you have only read for the first time this year can be counted. This is to encourage you to read widely and beyond what you have already read in the past.
