You have been transported back in time to the year 1348 in plague-ravaged Europe.

You will work in a group of four and take one of the following roles:

• Merchant,
• Physician (doctor),
• Rat, or
• Craftsman.

The other members of your group will each take on one of the other three roles.

You will be required to investigate certain aspects of the Black Death related to your role and share your findings with your group. Each member’s contribution should help your group reach some conclusions about how trade and other factors played their part in the spread of the Black Death and ultimately changed European society. (Our emphasis will be on agents of change – not just the event called the Black Death)

You will be able to demonstrate your understandings and skills at each stage of the process which will conclude with an individually written activity in class.
